Send the message 11 with one qubit
Alice (qubit ) and Bob (qubit ) share , prepared by a locked . Encode the two-bit message with Pauli gates on Alice's qubit only, then decode with the inverse Bell circuit so that the register ends in . The grader checks the joint distribution and each bit separately, so it can tell which of the two bits went wrong.
Step 1: Encode 11 on Alice’s qubit and decode it
The first two operations, on qubit and with control and target , are locked: they create the shared pair with qubit (Alice, the most significant bit) and qubit (Bob). Append at most four gates from , no measurements:
- Encode the message by applying to Alice's qubit , i.e. and then on qubit . Alice may only act on her own qubit; qubit accepts nothing except the decoding .
- Decode with : first with control and target , then on qubit . This is for the Bell circuit .
At most one two-qubit gate may follow the locked prefix. Three checks are run, all with tolerance : decoded-11 compares with ; first-bit compares the marginal of qubit with ; second-bit compares the marginal of qubit with .
